Our second goal was (as planned) Cozumel, an island off the Mexican mainland. You could get from the pier where the boats moored directly in a beautiful waterfront. There were restaurants and shopping. We had booked a snorkeling course for beginners, but were a bit earlier at the meeting point. So we could look around a bit.
Then it went off. With a rickety taxi we went to a small beach just off the main road. There, each got a snorkelling (fins, mask, snorkel, life jacket) and a guide assigned.
We had four of us get a very nice young man who has brought up the children with his red buoy (like on Baywatch) all the time, so they could look better. He then, once startled a ray from the sea floor, brought a high sea cucumber or any creepy-crawlies. That was really nice, too. However, it was certainly no great reef with hundreds of thousands of fish. But for has not the beginning ok
